Weekend #30

I thought we got alot more accomplished this weekend but this is what it comes down to:Tear out row of curcubits
eat harvest
rearrange garage to fit patio set
admire empty expansive patio
admire empty arranged garage
feed treats to neighbor dog
Install new faucet in master bath(not featured)
paint 4 window sills(not featured)
sand beam for an hour (not featured)
return ladder to owner (not featured)
Fertilize lawn(not featured)

take alot of pictures of sunflowers
watch birds eat sunflower seeds
(video is shaky because I haven't had my coffee yet--and I'm an amateur)

And now in pictures!

The one and only Pablano

Last harvest was pretty small

It started turning red just before it rotted off the stem. Still tasty!

Harvest cooked with the last cherry tomatoes

No before pics of the garage--it was all piled in the center from move in day.

This is Pooper, the neighbors dog who likes our yard for some reason...
She leaves us treats, we give her treats...

After 4 years this unknown rescued Clematis blooms! Outside the fence! The ingrate.

Little star creeper creeping nicely!

Nothing but admiration here. See Cinder blocks for old pics

Too cool for school Sunflower

Love the pointy leaves here

Never noticed Nasturtiums look menacing.

Roses are too easy for photos

Favorite sunflower again

Stay tuned for the faucet and microwave from hell in the coming posts.

Last day of summer

What is with all the spiders this week?
We have so many we have started naming them. Big Bertha, the sleeping ladies outside the slider...

The one Travis likes to pet... 3 more in this pic below...

My 1 non gigantic sunflower started blooming!! Multi headed even! Come on Sunflowers! It's a battle against time now. 3 of 15 blooming?

This is the Monday tomato harvest. Lots of cherry tomatoes. Mmmmmmm, like candy. I slacked on the harvest this weekend due to not being able to eat real food. I better get out and get the last beans too.

My itty bitty zukes, squash and patty pans. I keep losing them when they get any bigger. The zukes are only about 4 inches long... is it blossom end rot when the blossom rots and makes the ends icky?

This is why you listen when your garden advisor tells you to stake your tomatoes with 8ft supports when you are told... Not 4ft posts 2 weeks later, and extend them 2 months later. Early girl took out Brandy boy and they were both caught by Cherokee Purple. Whoops

I think I'm losing my first pepper plant. Temps are quite down this week, supposed to drop to under 50 this week... I'm leaving it anyway. Hoping to get more red ones. Same with Jalapenos--not pictured--I recently heard that Jalapenos turn RED?! I cannot wait to see that.

So long Summer, Farewell tomatoes and peppers! It was a great time--stay a bit longer next year will you?

Pepper Inspection

Super Chili - 13
Red Bell - 0
Sweet Banana - 4
Poblano/Ancho - 0
Orange Bell - 0
Hot pepper - 3
Jalapeno - 1
Orange Bell - 0
Cayenne - 8
Hot Banana - 3

This was the score last wednesday when I did my inspection. I was really hoping for some bell peppers, we like to make kabobs often, and those bell peppers in the store are expensive at times. Wonder if this year will be more expensive given the crappy weather...

As of yesterday there were a few tiny bell peppers starting and a 2nd jalapeno. The cayenne seem to have grown double in the last 3 - 90+ degree days.

The Super Chili, pictured above, is pretty silly. The whole plant is only about 8 inches tall, but its pushing 20 peppers today.
Still I am going to have to put on my disguise and brave the produce section for our party on friday. Embarrassing really. I have 100+ tomatoes on the vines and STILL have to buy tomatoes :(

Lush

I am beginning to think the peppers werent growing... Let us compare week one and week 5 pics shall we?

June 6

July 11

Just the peppers

I think I am right--they arent any bigger... I read that they are building roots and will still come around. They like soil temps in the 70's and they got planted a month ago... when it was what...55 and rainy?

Winston--I think we have a tomato problem...

And its gonna be divine!

Itty Bittier Zuchinni (travis does not approve this word)

Swiss chard, Kale, Collards are tasty. We have harvested and ate these with dinner twice now and they are still full

And for the house progress.... House? What house?
